Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanine Rocchi.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have a long history at St. Celestine School. I signed up as a substitute teacher when my son began school at St. Celestine. They were looking for a teacher and offered me a job. I worked as a Junior High teacher for eleven years. They were then looking for a principal and asked me if I was interested. I was, but I needed to go back to school to get a second Master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision. I am now beginning by 24th year as the Principal of St. Celestine School. I have walked the school through the Chicago Noise Abatement Project that allowed our school to have air conditioning. I have also brought the school forward with technology. When I first began my classroom had Apple II computers. We now have one to one technology throughout the entire school where students and teachers actively engage in the learning process. Our school has a strong enrollment and many programs to offer. We have a wonderful faculty, staff, and great community support.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any other educational institution, finances is always a struggle. We are fortunate to have strong support and our school is able to be self-sufficient. Financial stability is always at the fore front. Creativity and hard work by everyone support a fine school with a welcoming environment and solid academics.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
St. Celestine School has many wonderful programs to offer including the regular academics of reading, writing, math, science, English, social students, and religion. We also have physical education, music, art, technology, and foreign language. We offer after school activities that include athletics (basketball, volleyball, track and field, cross country, and soccer), a junior and senior reading club, an academic club, a drama club, a science club, a Spanish club, an art club, a scrabble club, a checkers club, yearbook, Student Council, Celtechs tech club and scouting for girls and boys.
We are most proud of our technology. We are one of the few schools in the areas that offer one to one technology using iPads and chromebooks. We have interactive boards in every classroom. Technology is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago offers many opportunities. It has diverse neighborhoods that help to enhance the welcoming feeling for everyone, people and businesses alike. Chicago has unique food, entertainment, shopping not to mention the wonderful museums, beautiful lakefront and cultural activities. Chicago is a very active city. It is clean and the people are friendly.
One thing our city can improve on is the reputation that there is violence and crime everywhere. The city is not perfect but it has much to offer.
