The fourth through eighth grade students worked very hard making “ofrendas” for Spanish Class. “Ofrendas” are private altars, decorated with some of their loved ones’ favorite things. On the altar, they place photographs of the person to whom they are honoring. The altar is decorated with flowers, candles, religious symbols, and offerings of the favorite foods and beverages of the person to whom it is dedicated. On the “ofrenda”, the main objects are symbolic of life’s elements: water, wind, fire and earth. Sometimes decorated sugar skulls are offered on the “ofrenda” and exchanged as gifts, often personalized with a person’s name. All of the “ofrendas” were truly a work of art!
